HISTORY

VI Music is born on October 5, 1998 under the initiative of Juan A. Vidal, President of Vidal Investment, Inc. Against all odds and with little experience in this area, he not only commences a record label, but puts a woman as this division manager, Sofia De La Cruz. This is notable since this industry hadn't distinguished itself for having women in these positions specially when one of the areas to be worked was that of Reggaeton

VI Music commences work on various artists of de Rap & Reggae and Dominican (Bachata) Music. In its second and third year, in addition to fortifying its Reggaeton, it ventures into the world of "Merengue" and Tropical Merengue. Some of the most distinguished artists that signed with VI Music during those years were Ashley "La Chica Bomba", Jose Miguel Class "El Gallo", Lilly Y Su Gran Tio, and Fuera De Liga.

With all the shifting and changes in the record industry during the year 2000, VI Music refocuses and concentrates its efforts towards the Rap & Reggae gender and commences a slow but firm movement that today has led it to become one of the most important record labels of this type in Puerto Rico. It has grown such, that in 2002 UMVD (Universal Music & Video Distribution) signed an exclusive distribution agreement with VI Music for Puerto Rico and the USA paving the way for market expansion.
